In addition to classic vehicle dynamics simulation, the test and integration tools CarMaker, TruckMaker and MotorcycleMaker have opened a wide usage spectrum of model-, software- and hardware in-the-loop simulation. This includes the development and testing of chassis control systems, advanced driver assistance systems as well as combined systems of chassis, powertrain and steering. Currently, especially the camera and sensor-based driver assistance systems also belong to the areas of application. In the context of various funding projects, such as VISAPS, HiPe-FiS, eco2DAS, ReTiVu, MAPS, LogDaSim etc., IPG Automotive has successfully been involved in numerous project proposals regarding the development of advanced driver assistance systems and active safety functions.
IPG Automotive, in the context of the third subproject, will specialize in the integration of simulation models in the open integration and test platform CarMaker. In this simulation environment, real-time capable models for sensors, control units, driver and environment will be integrated. For the test and the qualitative safeguarding of the HAD functions developed within PEGASUS, CarMaker will be expanded with corresponding interfaces in order to integrate all necessary models of the project participants.
Virtual test driving offers the possibility of testing many variations of the traffic environment in a reproducible manner – which plays a huge role especially for highly automated driving functions in order to ensure the controllability through HAD despite changing circumstances (for example, weather, other road users and their driving behaviors, infrastructure etc.).
For this, test cases will be created from the project’s scenario databank as well as their possible variations as simulation scenarios. These test cases serve for the MIL, SIL and HIL testing of automated driving functions in virtual test driving. The simulation is the basis for driving the necessary test kilometers in countless test scenarios already in the laboratory and also for the automated testing of complex maneuver catalogues. This process allows for virtual test driving up to the physical limits and the comparison of results from the simulation with real on-road testing. A special focus in this subproject is on the validation of the scalable test environment.
